I am a freelance biological illustrator
based in Sydney. I have a scientific background, and my first degree was in
Zoology with Marine Zoology (University
College of North Wales, Bangor, B.Sc.
1991). After which I completed a second degree in Applied Statistics and
Computing (University
College of North Wales, Bangor, Diploma 1992). I then
worked for Cambridge
University in the Pathology Department and then the Ministry
of Agriculture Fisheries and Food (MAFF, UK) before being offered a
research scholarship at the National University of
Singapore School of
Biological Sciences. My research was a collaborative study between the Physics
and Biology Departments within the Faculty of Science, where I studied for my
Ph.D. in Marine Science (National University of
Singapore, Ph.D. 1999). Since graduating I have worked in the
commercial sector liaising between government, academic and industrial bodies,
predominantly within the fields of Oceanography
(Fugro GEOS) and the Internet
sector (Go-events.com). Recently I have turned my attentions fully to scientific
illustration, which has long been a passion of mine as I have always wanted to
combine my scientific training with my ability to paint and draw. I enjoy
working in and use mainly traditional media such as watercolour, oil, ink and
pencil. I produce private commissions in
addition to scientific illustrations, which have been previously published in
the academic press. I have also worked for publishing houses such as Editions Didier Millet
(Singapore) and have had a number of articles in journals
published by Elsevier
Science, Pergamon, EDP
Sciences, Chapman & Hall, EU, etc. (Please see the
Publications link within this Biography for a list of specific articles done for these
publishers.) Currently I am also a member of the Australian Illustrators Association, the Association of Illustrators (UK) and the Association of Archaeological Illustrators and Surveyors. I am self trained in traditional media
and also utilize digital methods when semi-diagrammatic illustrations are
required, using the benefits of both techniques to produce a finished piece.
Completed artwork can then be sent in digital format to a publisher via email or
ftp, while colour images and graphics files can also be produced on CD if
required. If you are interested in commissioning
artwork from me for a forthcoming project, I am always willing to consider most
subjects and would be very happy to hear from you to discuss your requirements.
Please email me at the address below with your details, company name etc. and I
will then contact you directly. Ann Novello Hogarth Dip. B .Sc. Ph.D. |
